UC Irvine Competes This Weekend at Cal Poly InvitationalMarch 25, 2008
COMPETITION IN SLO: The UC Irvine track and field teams compete this weekend in the Cal Poly Invitational at San Luis Obispo. The men's and women's hammer throw will be contested Friday (Mar. 28) beginning at 3:00 p.m. with the full meet on Saturday. Field events start at 11:30 a.m. with the first track event at 1:15 p.m. MISIATA SETS SCHOOL RECORD IN SHOT PUT: Sophomore Alisha Misiata broke her own school record in winning the shot put with a mark of 50-6 in last Saturday's Collegiate Classic at Anteater Stadium. That mark passed her previous record of 49-11 set earlier this season. Misiata placed second in the discus throw Saturday with a mark of 149-8. UCI's Madeline Leduc finished second in the triple jump at 38-6 and she was third in the long jump with a mark of 18-3. Jenny Lee was second in the javelin throw at 125-9 while third-place finishes were recorded by Sharitie Williams in the 100 meters (12.46) and Angeliza Fontillas in the 100-meter hurdles (14.99). Orlisha Henlon finished fourth in the 400 meters at 56.85. In the men's competition, George Hernandez finished first in his section of the 400 meters in 48.68. Napoleon Greene was second in the 400-meter hurdles (53.74) and third in the 110-meter hurdles (14.99). Kevin Palmer finished fourth in the 110 hurdles (15.02) and fifth in the 400 hurdles. Tim Murphy was fourth in the 800 meters in 1:52.86 and Trent Richert was fifth in the long jump at 22-0 ¾. CHRAMOSTA, JOHNSTON QUALIFY FOR REGIONAL IN STEEPLE: UC Irvine had two NCAA-regional qualifiers in the 3,000-meter steeplechase last Friday night in day one of the Collegiate Classic at Anteater Stadium. In the women's race, junior Lauren Chramosta placed third in 10:49.92 to qualify for the regional as she ran the second-fastest time in UCI history behind Jenny Liou's time of 10:47.01 set in 2003. In the men's race, senior Sky Johnston won the event with a time of 8:59.48 for the eighth-fastest time in school history as he qualified for the NCAA West Regional May 30-31 at Cal State Northridge. Senior Tim Hearst finished second in Friday's race with a time of 9:14.47. Junior Gabriela Santana finished second in the 3,000 meters Friday night with a time of 9:57.03. Sophomore Alisha Misiata was fourth in the hammer throw with a 152-1. PETERSON PLACES FIFTH IN DECATHLON: Junior Kyle Peterson finished fifth in the decathlon with 6,329 points at the CSUN Spring Break Open in Northridge last week. Peterson had marks of 11.28 in the 100 meters, 20-4 ½ in the long jump, 38-11 in the shot put, 5-8 ½ in the high jump, 52.66 in the 400 meters, 16.44 in the 110-meter hurdles, 104-10 in the discus throw, 15-1 in the pole vault, 162-11 in the javelin throw and 5:16.76 in the 1500 meters. |
