Entry for January 28, 2008

Jan. 28, 2008

Hello to all, we meet once again as I report from the library during the hours of study table. For those of you who are unaware of this "study table" I speak of, it takes place on Sundays at the Science Library on campus. For the guys on the team who need to get school work taken care of, which is all of us, we meet on the fourth floor and get caught up in our studies. Good times had by all.

This last week we had two matches on the road against Pepperdine and the Trojans of USC. Pepperdine has been and always will be one of the top teams in not only our conference, but the nation as well. It was a hard fought match and we ended up coming out on top in four games. This match showed what we are capable of and I think it helped our confidence tremendously.

Although USC was ranked lower than the Waves, we knew they were going to be a very tough opponent as they were coming off a big win as well against their cross-town rivals UCLA. That night we competed the way we needed to, took care of the ball on our side of the net and won in four games once more. A congrats must be extended to Cory Yoder and Kevin Wynne who both posted for career-high kills the night against the Trojans. More notably for Cory, though, whose father is an alumnus and former coach of the Trojans. He represented his family with nothing but excellence and class. I would like to thank all of the fans that made it to either of the matches. You really don't know how much it helps and how greatly we appreciate it. Please keep up the good work.

This week was also our team's first pair of matches that took place on a Wednesday and Friday. Let me tell you that getting a Saturday off is something that must be treasured dearly as we experience them very rarely. Friday night consisted of a guys night just sitting around and talking. This may not sound like much fun to many, but once you get a large group of us together, it is non-stop laughter. The morning after my abs are severely sore because of the brutal workout they received the previous night. Saturday could not have been a better day. The sun was out for a portion of the day and there was a little bit of swell in front of our house in Newport so we paddled out and made the best of it.

This next week we play UC Santa Cruz on Tuesday and UCLA on Friday in Westwood. Both of which are going to be very competitive matches so please try and make it. That's all for now, thanks for tuning in. Until next week.
