Long Beach State Defeats UC Irvine 8-5

49ers Open Game With 4-0 Run

IRVINE, Calif. --- Sixth-ranked Long Beach State opened the game with a 4-0 run and went on to an 8-5 win Sunday in the Southern California Tournament at Anteater Pool.

Travis Buchanan, Jake Kinne and Justin Koeppen scored two goals apiece for the 49ers and goalie Steve MacKenzie had 12 saves.

Cole Bitter scored twice for No. 7 UC Irvine and senior goalie Matt Garcia had eight saves.

The Anteaters face Loyola Marymount for seventh place at 1:20 p.m.
