Peers vote Duda as Best Hustle Player

March 11, 2008

Irvine, Calif. - UC Irvine women's basketball player Stephanie Duda was named the Big West Best Hustle Player by her peers.

Duda, who is the only Big West player to average a double-double on the season, leads the conference in rebound average at 10.2 per game and is ninth in scoring with 12.4 mark. The 5-10 forward grabbed 19 rebounds against Weber State, the most by a Big West player this year and leads the league in double-doubles with 16 this season. The senior currently ranks 12th in the nation in rebound average. She has also collected 42 steals. Duda was also named to the Big West honorable mention team for the second consecutive year.

Duda joins Kristen Green (2004) as the only two Anteaters to have earned the Best Hustle distinction.

The Best Hustle Player honor is one of three specialty awards voted on by the league's players. UC Santa Barbara's Whitney Warren was tabbed the Best defensive Player and Ashlee Brown was named the Best Sixth Women.

UC Irvine opens up against Cal Poly at the Big West Tournament Wednesday (Mar. 12) at noon at the Anaheim Convention Center.
