Anteaters Sits In 17th After Day One of NCAA West Regional

Henderson leads UCI with one-under 71

Lincoln, Calif. - The UC Irvine women's golf team is in 17th place following the first round of the NCAA Div. I Women's Golf West Regional, Thursday at the Lincoln Hills Golf Club.

UCI shot a first round 302 and sits in 17th place. USC leads the field with a five-under 283 and is followed by Tulsa who shot 287 and was the only other team to finish below par. UNLV sits third at an even-par 288 while Arkansas (291) and Oklahoma State (293) completed the top five.

Individually, USC's Paula Moreno and Arizona's Alison Walshe carded a tournament low 68 to lead the field. The pair hold a 1-stroke lead over four individuals who shot 69.

Selaneé Henderson drained six birdies and finished the first day with a one-under 71 which is tied for ninth place. Sophomore Mariko Makabe carded a 76 and is in 57th place while sophomore Patty Chawalitmetha is 65th with a score of 77. Senior Kim Lorenzana shot a 78 and is 74th and freshman Hillary Packard is 85th with a score of 79 after the first round.

The Anteaters will tee-off at 8:00 a.m. for the second round Friday with UNLV and UC Davis.
