UC Irvine Heads To NCAA West RegionalApril 28, 2008
ANTEATERS HEAD TO NCAA WEST REGIONAL: UC Irvine has been selected to compete at the NCAA West Regional May 8-10 at the Lincoln Hills Golf Club in The field includes USC, UCI played at the Lincoln Hills Golf Course earlier this year at the Sacramento State Invitational. The Anteaters finished sixth out of 19 teams with a score of 906. The top eight teams in each of the three regionals advance to the NCAA Championships May 20-23 at the BIG WEST CHAMPIONS AGAIN: The Anteaters captured the title with a seven stroke victory over UC Davis (915). Cal State Northridge was third (938), Cal Poly was fourth (941), Senior Kim Lorenzana won her first collegiate tournament with a par on the third play-off hole with UC Davis' Chelsea Stelzmiller. Lorenzana had a team best 72 on the final round to finish with a score of 222 (77-73-72). Lorenzana becomes the third Anteater player to win the conference individual title joining Selaneé Henderson (2006) and Stella Lee (2002). Senior Selaneé Henderson was third after carding a 225 (77-74-74) and sophomore Patty Chawalitmetha was fourth with a 54-hole total of 227 (77-71-79). Freshman Hillary Packard was 20th at 239 (81-77-81), while sophomore Mariko Makabe had a solid round of 76 on the final 18 to move into 24th place with a score of 245 (87-82-76). MORE ALL-CONFERENCE HONORS: Senior Kim Lorenzana was named to the All-Big West first team for the third consecutive year, while sophomore Patty Chawalitmetha was named to the All-Big West second team. Head coach Julie Brooks was named Big West Coach of the Year for the second straight season. Brooks is in her second year at the helm of the Anteaters. |
