IRVINE, Calif. - UC Irvine women's soccer head coach Scott Juniper comments on UCI's spring match against Arizona State.

"On Sunday, April 6th we traveled to the Toyota College Classic to play against Arizona State University.  The game started out badly for us and we conceded after just 2 minutes.  We gave up a second goal on 23 minutes and it began to feel like it wasn't going to be our day.  We weathered the storm and can feel fortunate to have got to the break at only 2-0.  The team made a commitment at half time to raise our level of competitiveness and fight for the ball with more passion and desire.  They say that soccer is 'a game of two halves' and our second half performance certainly proved that.  We got much closer to them in the second half, particularly in the midfield where we battled for every scrap of possession.  When we won the ball we were particularly pleased with the way we established possession and started to pass the ball with a lot of purpose.  As the game went on we looked like the stronger team and created some good opportunities.  Amanda Phillips, who was making her first start for the Anteaters scored the opening goal and Kate Berrini slotted our second to tie the game with 10 minutes left.  Erin Henry made several fine saves to keep us in the game and we continued to press for the winner.  While we created a couple of half chances we couldn't find the final touch and the game finished in a draw."

"That was the second tie we have had against Pac-10 opposition this spring and in both games we finished strongly and could have snatched a winner.  This can only give us confidence as we move into the last couple of weeks of the spring and look forward to the Fall."
