Jay Hosack Named Women's Volleyball Assistant Coach

Hosack joins UCI coaching staff

IRVINE, Calif. --- Jay Hosack, currently a member of the USA men's national team coaching staff, has been named an assistant coach with the UC Irvine women's volleyball program.

Hosack joins UC Irvine after serving as the associate head coach for both the men's and women's volleyball programs at Irvine Valley College since 2005. Hosack, who will continue to coach the men's team at IVC, was instrumental in the program's Orange Empire Conference titles in 2005 and 2007 as well as guiding the Lasers to a state championship last season. Hosack, who garnered 2007 conference Co-Coach of the Year honors, also won a conference crown with the women's program last year.

From 2000-04 Hosack served as the head coach for the men's and women's volleyball teams at UC Santa Cruz, where he was responsible for day-to-day operations, recruiting and fundraising. The men's program was regularly ranked nationally in the top 10, advancing to the national semifinals in 2004. That same year, UC Santa Cruz produced its first All-American in the sport of men's volleyball and on the women's side, five players received all-conference honors. Hosack was named the UC Santa Cruz Coach of the Year in 2002 and 2004.

Hosack is also involved at the club level, maintaining his club ties as the head coach for the Orange Coast Volleyball Club 18-1's team. He guided the Riptides Orange County Club from 2005-07, winning a gold medal at the Junior Olympics with the 18-1's team. He also served as the head coach and the coaching coordinator for the Team Santa Cruz Club from 1997-99.

Hosack's extensive experience also includes stints with the U.S. Junior National Team, the USA Volleyball A2 camp and he has been the director for the Irvine Valley College summer camps, the Aldusal Coaching Clinics in El Salvador and the UC Santa Cruz High Performance Camps.

Hosack received his bachelor's degree in sociology at the UC Santa Cruz and is working towards a master's in coaching and athletic administration at Concordia University.
