UC Irvine Wins Doubles, Four-Person At Big West Beach Tournament

Pestolesi, Sutherland capture beach title

IRVINE, Calif. --- Freshman Kari Pestolesi (Huntington Beach/Edison HS) and junior Devon Sutherland (Corona/Santiago HS) defeated Pacific's Svenja Englehard and Kara Uhl to win the Big West Beach Tournament Saturday at Huntington Beach.

Pestolesi and Sutherland won 21-18 in the second game to seal the first two games in a best-of-three match. Also competing in the tournament were Big West members Cal State Fullerton, Cal State Northridge and Long Beach State. The duos of Taryn Robertson (Valencia/HS) and Larissa Nordyke (Honolulu, HI/Punahou HS) and Alexandra Bubica (San Pedro/HS) and Alexandra Filkins (Seal Beach/Los Alamitos HS) finished tied for third while Lauren Kellerman (Escondido/HS) and McCall Miller (Laguna Beach/Mater Dei HS) finished fifth.

Chelsea Ellis (Los Angeles/Brentwood HS), Alexandra Hauser (Chino Hills/Ayala HS), Ashley Bosza (Trabuco Canyon/El Toro HS), Riley Cropper (Seal Beach/Los Alamitos HS), Lauren Souto (Huntington Beach/Mater Dei HS) and Emily Yamate (Torrance/South Torrance HS) defeated Cal State Fullerton in the championship match to win the four-person tournament.
