NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. - The No. 8 Loyola Marymount Lions beat No. 7 Arizona State Saturday in the first round of the UC Irvine Women's Water Polo Invitational at Corona del Mar High School.

Nicole Hughes led all scorers with three goals for the Lions. Keeper Caylinn Wallace had eight saves for Arizona State.

Loyola Marymount will next play UCLA in the quarterfinals at 2:00 p.m. and Arizona State will move to the consolation bracket and will play Cal State Northridge at 3:15 at Corona del Mar High School.
