NO. 16 UC SAN DIEGO BEATS NO. 13 UC SANTA BARBARA 8-7; FINISHES 15TH

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. - No. 16 UC San Diego beat No. 13 UC Santa Barbara 8-7 in the fifteenth place match Sunday at the UC Irvine Women's Water Polo Invitational at Corona del Mar High School.

UC San Diego took a 4-2 lead at the half. The Tritons and Gauchos each scored two goals in the third period to give UCSD a 6-4 lead heading into the final eight minutes of play. Amanda Tipton cut the lead to 6-5 as she scored 29 seconds into the period for the Gauchos. The Tritons answered back with two goals to take an 8-5 lead with 3:41 to play. Christie Clark cut that lead to 8-6 with a goal 25 seconds later. Claire Buchanan added a goal for UCSB with 13 seconds left, but the Gauchos were unable to complete the comeback.
