Anteaters Finish 10th at MPSF Championship
UCI concludes season with 16-12 record

ANTEATERS FINISH 10th AT MPSF CHAMPIONSHIP: The UC Irvine women's water polo team (16-12, 6-6) finished 10th at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championship held at the Aztec Aquaplex in San Diego.
This was the final year for UCI as a member of the MPSF. The Anteaters will join Long Beach State, UC Santa Barbara, UC Davis, Cal State Northridge and Pacific in the Big West Conference starting next season.
MPSF CHAMPIONSHIP REVIEW: The `Eaters went 1-2 in the MPSF Championship to take 10th place. UCI lost 5-4 in overtime to San Jose State in the opening round. The team then defeated UCSB 8-5 and lost 7-6 to Cal State Northridge in the 9th place match. Junior Julia Fancher (LaVerne/Bonita HS) led the team with six goals on the week. Senior keeper Lauren Machanis (Carlsbad HS) had 38 saves on the week.
UCI RANKED 9TH IN NATION: The Anteaters are ranked 9th in the country in the National Collegiate Water Polo poll. UCI ended 2007 ranked 10th nationally. The team was ranked as high as No. 4 last season which is the highest the Anteaters have been ranked in school history.
ANTEATER LEADERS: Senior Jessica Lewis led the team with 37 goals on the year. Sophomore Kat Plummer was second on the team with 31 goals. Junior Gianna Rossi was third with 29 goals on the year. Junior Sarah Frost (Santa Barbara HS) was fourth with 27 goals this season. Senior keeper Lauren Machanis had 233 saves this season to lead the team.
ANTEATERS IN THE RECORD BOOK: Junior Gianna Rossi is fourth all-time at UCI with 125 goals. Senior Jessica Lewis is fifth with 120 goals. Junior Julia Fancher is sixth all-time with 94 goals. Senior keeper Lauren Machanis holds the UCI all-time record with 932 career saves. Kat Plummer scored in 13 straight matches this season for the fourth longest streak in UCI history.
